High-end Hobo

I used to think only 80s has-beens and hobos wear fingerless-gloves. Boy, was I wrong. Made from acrylic and wool, you can purchase them from Free People Clothing Boutique here.

Pop-up Loveliness

These PopMat paper placemants by Lian Ng are absolutely beautiful and so delicate. They look too pretty to use!

How does she get some of the paper cut-outs so thin? I'm thinking she probably used a laser cutting machine where the outline of the image is loaded into the computer and laser beam is used to burn through the material to achieve the desired shape.

Rejected Star Wars merchandise

I don't normally do this as I aim to keep the things on this blog design-y or pretty, and the things mentioned today are neither. But when I came across this I couldn't help myself. This is for all you geeks out there and for my internal geek.

I actually think these merchandise are well thought out, I'm just not sure how well they'll market. Click here to check out the rest. Jabba the Hutt beanbag and the galatic big game trophies rate an extreme 11 on my lame-o-meter but they make me laugh.

Time flies when you're young

It seems I have approached the period in my life where some of my friends are starting to get hitched. I came across Stephanie Williams who takes some really quirky and cute photos of weddings and engagements, among other shots of people.

Useless but Hilarious

Random Capitalisation. The completely redundant use of capitals. I usually try to avoid it as we are not living in Germany and I've been told off a few times for doing it. But tonight I just felt like it. SO THERE.

Another thing that is completely unnecessary is this:

They're handmade beards by Erin who lives in Portland. The beards come with ear loops on the ends keep them secure. I'm assuming one size fits most.

Like I said, completely useless but they do make me laugh. And for the facial hair challenged, they make you look manly and keep your face warm. You can buy them at her shop here.

Since we're on the topic of beards I would like to share one of my favourite songs by the Scottish band Cocteau Twins, Bluebeard. The lyrics are absolutely tosh but I love the melody and overlapping vocals. Faye Wong has done a version of this song in her album Fu Zao.

Clock + bacon = pig clock

Apparently this ingenious people-waking device by Matty Sallin, Daniel Bartolini, Hsiao-huh Hsu has been around for a little while but it was only recently I came across this.

"This clock gently wakes you up with the mouthwatering aroma of bacon, just like waking up on a Sunday morning to the smell of Mom cooking breakfast. Unless you're Jewish. "

To be non-discriminatory, there must be lots of other things you can put in that shoebox sized alarm clock; a slice of salami pizza, ham and cheese on bread, pork chop, the list goes on.

There are plenty of other things floating around if you just can't enough of bacon. I'm not sure about Diet Coke with bacon though. I hate anything diet.

Drinks anyone?

The only thing that dragged me out of blog hibernation was this absolutely gorgeous set of recipe cards I stumbled across while foraging at good ol Camberwell market. Called "the cocktail deck" it features 50 beautifully illustrated cocktail recipe cards by the very talented Kat Macleod. I was originally going to do something with them but they're just too gorgeous to destroy.

You can view and buy more of her work at The Jacky Winter Group the agency that represents some of Australia's contemporary illustrators.

mmMmmm...I'm in love.
